NASA found dead of a gas planet with a naked core

But exoplanets TOI-849b there’s another oddity. Astronomers have found that she is kind of naked. Researchers believe that they found “a naked planetary core”. If their theory is correct, it will be the first such discovery in the Universe. But how did this happen?

Its size suggests that it should be comparable to the gas giants such as Uranus or Neptune. But the powerful stellar wind literally blew her out of the atmosphere, leaving the bare one stone core of the planet.

A study published in the journal Nature, details the discovery of TOI-849b, which revolves around the star TOI-849 730 light years from Earth. The exoplanet was discovered by NASA using the TESS telescope – a space Observatory, which hunts for scopename, catching the slightest change in the brightness of stars, hinting at the passage of the planets in their drive.

The astronomers found that TOI-849b about 40 times more massive than Earth and is 3.5 times larger. The planet exists in a “dead” region around its star – a place where astronomers previously found planets of this type, because they break any tidal forces of the star either burns an incredible temperature. But TOI-849b somehow manages to resist oppressive heat. According to the theory, the high density of the planet suggests the accumulation of a huge amount of hydrogen and helium, but was probably collected only a fraction of the expected mass.

“Such a small amount of hydrogen and helium are really amazing for such a huge planet,” said astrophysicist from the University of Bern and co-author of the study Christophe mordasini.

It is likely that the planet was not able to form its atmosphere because of the small number of protoplanetary gas around it in the beginning of the evolution.

“Our discovery gives us a unique opportunity to examine the inner core of gas giants as we can’t do that in our Solar system,” said astrophysicist from the University of Warwick David Armstrong.
