Meghan Markle’s wedding dress from Australian Beyonce and Cheryl designer could cost £320k
Meghan Markle’s wedding dress for her nuptials to Prince Harry is likely to be designed by Australian couture label Ralph & Russo, who have prices starting from £30,000 and going up to £320,000 for custom-made couture creations.
We’ve already seen Meghan, 36, in an outfit from the design house – she wore one of their dresses for her engagement photos.
The black ruffled gown with sheer panels embroidered with gold feathers was priced at £56,000 and won widespread praise when the bride-to-be posed with her fiancé at at Frogmore House in Windsor.
It’s thought Meghan is keen to inject a bit of Hollywood glamour into the royal wedding. The former Suits actress favours clean lines, and certainly isn’t shy about spending large amounts of money on her outfits.
Aside from her engagement dress, Meghan has been photographed in a Burberry coat, Chloé bag and dresses from Canadian fashion house Erdem. She wore a dress by Jason Wu, Michelle Obama’s favourite designer, to her recent appearance with Prince Harry, Prince William and her future sister-in-law Kate Middleton to discuss the Royal Foundation Forum.
This isn’t the first time the bespoke label has been in demand by the world’s most stylish and high-profile women, as Ralph & Russo have become increasingly popular in glamorous showbiz circles in recent years.
The duo created tour costumes for Beyonce’s Mrs Carter world tour, including an embroidered white bodysuit.
In 2014, Cheryl Tweedy wore a black Ralph & Russo wedding down at a party in London to celebrate her secret nuptials to her then-husband, Jean-Bernard Fernandez-Versini.
Gwyneth Paltrow chose a custom-made, one-shouldered pale pink gown for the 2015 Oscars and made it on to several best-dressed lists.
More recently, Rihanna chose a striking Ralph & Russo black gown to wear to the annual Diamond Ball.
But most importantly, the label has already been deemed worthy of a royal occasion, as Angelina Jolie wore a two-piece pale grey suit to meet the Queen in 2014 when she was awarded an honorary damehood.
Ralph & Russo are an Australian couple, Tamara Ralph and Michael Russo, who are based in London. Their fashion house is very convenient for the royals – they have a seven-storey salon in Mayfair, just a few streets away from Buckingham Palace.
The brand makes around 600 couture dresses a year for some of the UK’s and the world’s richest women, with a large percentage of those being bridal.
Customers are admitted by appointment only, and if the reports are true, it’s likely Meghan has made many clandestine visits to the headquarters as her wedding approaches.
Meghan and Prince Harry will marry at Windsor Castle on May 19.
Shortly after the lavish ceremony, they will take a carriage ride through the streets of Windsor to get up close and personal with the thousands of well-wishers expected to line the route, who will get a glimpse of the newest royal’s custom-made gown up close.
Kate Middleton’s wedding dress for her 2011 wedding to Prince William featured long lace sleeves and was designed by Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen.
