Justice League: Batman Returns? How Michael Keaton could replace Ben Affleck

Having starred in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League, Ben Affleck looks like he might already be hanging up the Dark Knight’s cape.

Various rumours have been swirling around Hollywood that Batman solo movie director Matt Reeves is in talks with other actors to replace the star, with Jake Gyllenhaal being the top pick.

However, isn’t there a much simpler solution to who should be the DC Extended Universe’s Bruce Wayne?

Movie Web reckon it’s glaringly obvious: Bring back Michael Keaton.

The 66-year-old actor starred in 1989’s Batman and 1992’s Batman Returns, hailed by fans as great movies up there with the Christopher Nolan Dark Knight trilogy.

Of course some might be thinking he’s way too old now, but Affleck’s already been starring as middle-aged Batman and Keaton’s still doing action roles.

The actor has also had something of a comeback following his Oscar-nomination in Birdman and not unheard of having an actor return to a role even after another actor has played the part.

This is exactly what Sean Connery did twice, quitting James Bond after five movies with 1967’s You Only Live Twice and being replaced by George Lazenby, only to return with 1971’s Diamonds are Forever and then the unofficial outing, 1983’s Never Say Never Again.

And on top of all of this?

The actor told Entertainment Weekly: “”If it was Tim Burton directing? In a heartbeat.

“Tim, in the movies, really invented the whole dark superhero thing. He started everything, and some of the guys who have done these movies since then don’t say that, and they’re wrong.”
