Cheryl speaks out on claims she was supposed to DUET with ex Liam Payne on his new single
Polaroid is the new track by Jonas Blue, featuring vocals from Payne and Lennon Stella.
But rumours have recently spread that Stella’s parts were earmarked for Cheryl – before she and Payne announced their split earlier this year.
The story dates back to Jonas Blue himself saying his dream plan was to unite the couple on record.
“About a year ago I said to my manager that I would love to do a collaboration with them both and I reckon it would have been Polaroid,” he told the Daily Star.
“It would have been perfect as I knew when I wrote the song I could hear Liam’s voice on it.”
Cheryl, however, has denied that the wheels were ever put into motion for the plan.
When Nick Grimshaw asked her if she was approached to sing Polaroid, she said on BBC Radio 1 yesterday: “False.”
But she clarified: “It’s a very nice song and she sings it very well.”
The song had only come up in conversation because Payne had texted the Geordie popstar asking for her to play it – proving they are very much still on good terms as they co-parent their son, Bear.
Cheryl released her new single Love Made Me Do It last week, and has accrued 1.6 million YouTube plays for its music video in that time.
It was at Number 8 in Monday’s midweek Official Charts sales flash, but is expected to have tailed off over the course of the week. It’s chart position will be finalised later today.
She will be keeping busy with promotion in the coming weeks: an X Factor performance is slated for Sunday, and she’ll also be at Hits Live and the Jingle Bell Ball.
Furthermore she’ll be performing on The Graham Norton Show at the end of the month.
Her fourth album is not currently slated for release; with new record label 3Beat said to be focussing on singles first.
“What we want to do with Cheryl is to put out a succession of incredible records and put out an album at the end of that process,” Jon Barlow told Music Week.
“Whether that’s in nine months or 12 months’ time we don’t know, but that is the aim.”
