Ariana Grande: BIG NEWS for album Thank U, Next as UK midweek charts are revealed
The US artist released her new album Thank U, Next last Friday to huge excitement from fans all over the world – just months after she unveiled her previous collection, Sweetener. Today, the Official Charts Company has revealed that it’s soaring up the charts – and could lead to the star topping both the singles and albums bestseller lists on Friday. As of today, she’s almost certain to pull it off.
Today’s sales flash shows the Thank U, Next album is currently outselling the rest of the Top 5 combined.
The OCC notes that around half of its data comes from streams, and it’s had a knock-on effect on Sweetener too: it’s rebounding eight places back into the Top 20.
Over on the singles chart, the star’s hit 7 Rings is currently leading the race.
It’s closest competition is another of Grande’s songs: Break Up With Your Girlfriend, I’m Bored is only 41 combined sales behind.
Calvin Harris and Rag’n’Bone Man follow at No3, with Sam Smith and Normani at No4 and Lewis Capaldi at No5.
Another Grande song follows further down the list: Needy is new at No6.
Thank U, Next is having success the world over, and on Metacritic it has an extremely impressive weighted score of 88/100.
This includes a four-star review from The Guardian, a four-star review from The Independent and a 9/10 rating from The Line of Best Fit.
Grande won big at the Grammys last night, as Sweetener picked up the prize for Pop Vocal Album.
She did not collect it herself, however: she didn’t attend the ceremony after blasting show bosses over the reason she would not be performing.
“i know i’m not there tonight (trust, i tried and still truly wished it had worked out tbh) and i know i said i try not to put too much weight into these things …. but f**k ……. this is wild and beautiful. thank you so much,” she wrote on Twitter when her win was announced.
Thank U, Next is out now.
