Amazon Prime PREVIEW Aquaman screenings FIVE days early? How to watch
There is only one major superhero film left for 2018. Aquaman is the next big hope for the DC Extended Universe. After the unexpected problems faced by The Justice League movie, the entire franchise faces a major period of unrest, with the future of many leading stars in doubt. The box office performance of Jason Momoa’s first solo outing as the heir to Atlantis will be crucial. The first trailers were well received but many DC fans are still unconvinced by Warner Bros handling of their beloved comicbook heroes. Early releases in two major territories are part ofa drive to reignite excitement.
There was great surprise across the industry when WB anounced it would release Aquaman in China first, a full two weeks before the US date of December 21.
Most Western blockbusters traditionaly open last in China, usually long after the rest of the globe. The studio is hoping the territory’s ongoing major support for Marvel releases, most notably the recent Ant-Man sequel, will give rival DC’s Aquaman a huge opening surge which will generate buzz and box office around the world – and pre-empt the box office doomsday reports which have dogged so many other WB releases.
Now major US entertainment websites are reporting there will be widespread cinema screenings for Amazon Prime members five days before the film opens in the US.
There will be screenings at 7pm on Saturday, November 15 at cinemas across North America, including Regal Cinemas, Cinepolis, Bow Tie Cinemas, ArcLight, Showcase Cinemas, and Studio Movie Grill.
Soem of the bigger US chains will not be participating.
This also brings ties the US release a lot closer to the UK where British audiences can see the film from December 14.
The modern digital age has lead to increasing frustration when films receive different release dates in the UK and US, and fans can read reviews and spoilers before the film has actually opened in their country.
The Amazon Prime screenings in the US will allow American audiences to react to the film as soon as their European counterparts.
Eager US fans should note that, as yet, this story has not been officially confirmed and Amazon US is showing no information about the preview screenings.
