ABBA new songs DELAYED: Benny Andersson confirms bad news on huge comeback
The iconic quartet – Benny Andersson, Agnetha Faltskog, Bjorn Ulvaeus and Frida Lyngstad – confirmed earlier this year that they had recorded their first new material together in 30 years.
The tracks, called I Still Have Faith In You and Don’t Shut Me Down, were expected at the end of 2018 but will not see the light of day until 2019.
Andersson told the Daily Star: “It was planned for the end of this year.
“But I think we are talking about the beginning of next year now.”
He added: “I am very proud of both songs.
“One is like a pop song from the Seventies. The other one is kind of timeless.”
An accompanying documentary will also be postponed.
The songs came about alongside the announcement of a hologram tour, and Ulvaeus has hinted that a third song could come too.
“Yeah it is but don’t tell anyone. If we do a third one, it won’t be out until we go on the road,” he said.
But as for a whole album, he seemed a little more reluctant.
“Doing another album is like doing Mamma Mia 3, what is the point unless there is a good reason, good script, good environment?” he’s quoted as saying.
“It is such a joyful experience, so that is a reason to do it.”
The group’s discography has had revived popularity this year thanks to the release of Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again.
The musical sequel has so far made a huge £64.2 million at the UK box office – putting it just £4 million shy of the staggering haul achieved by the 2008 original.
The film’s soundtrack also spent several weeks at No1 on the UK album chart, with ABBA’s Gold also returning to the Top 10.
What’s more, the band will launch a live party experience in London next year.
